Many free web space providers make you upload/work on your site via an online browser.
This works fine for most people, but what if the Web is being slow or your ISP is down? An
easier way, safer way, and more flexible way to upload is through FTP (file transfer
protocol). This way you may use Notepad or an HTML editor, like CuteHTML or Microsoft
Frontpage even, to code your pages and even preview them in a browser. When you're done
and ready, just load your FTP program and automatically connect to your server, choose the
file you want to upload, and wa-la, your site is on the Web! If you're uploading CGI
scripts or CHMODing them, you need an FTP client as well! FTP is really easy. Just find
the program right for you (there are MANY, and some come with your computer. I personally
use and enjoy the ease and simplicity of CuteFTP (http://www.cuteftp.com),
but they all basically work the same. Just find out the ftp url for your site. Sometimes
it's ftp.yourhost.com or sometimes www2.yourhost.com. Good luck, email me if you need
